The Georgia State Parks gopher mascot can expect a busy June. During Get Outdoors Georgia Month, visitors to any state park or historic site will be on the lookout for the critter in the Great Gopher Chase photo quest.

There are three steps for joining in the monthlong quest:

1. Visit any of the 27 participating sites listed in the official Gopher's Travel Guide at GeorgiaStateParks.org/gopher-chase.

2. Find the gopher's image on trails, campgrounds and playgrounds

3. Snap a photo and email to Nicole.barber@dnr.state.ga.us.

The more gopher photos captured, the better chance of winning prizes.

Everyone who submits a photo of the gopher can also put in a suggestion for his name. The winner will receive a $100 Bass Pro Shops gift card.

If three photos are sent from different Georgia state parks, they will be submitted to the Great Gopher Chase Picture of the Week contest. Winning photos will be displayed online and on the Georgia State Parks Facebook page.

Those who submit five photos from different state parks have a chance to win a $50 Bass Pro Shops gift card.

By submitting 10 photos with the gopher at different parks, guests can win a $50 Bass Pro Shops gift card, as well as an annual Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites membership worth $50.

Winners for the five- and 10-picture categories will be announced the week of July 1. This will be followed by the announcement of the Gopher's new name on Facebook.

The contest runs June 1-30. Among the participating sites in North Georgia are Cloudland Canyon, Fort Mountain, Amicalola Falls, Unicoi and Tallulah Gorge state parks.
