Where to find holiday light shows in the Chattanooga area

Plug these addresses into your GPS and tour some neighborhood lights

As soon as drivers turn off Belvoir Avenue onto Fountain Avenue, they will see the glow of the green lights draping trees all over "Helton Hill" in East Ridge. For more than 20 years, the Shrader/Helton families have decorated the East Ridge hill on which a large part of their family lives. Visitors turn off Fountain into the driveway and follow it around a loop at the top of the hill. Donations of canned food are requested for the Chattanooga Community Kitchen.

Remember those childhood years when the whole family piled into the car one night and drove through subdivisions ooh-ing and aah-ing over decorated houses? Neighborhood garden clubs would choose Christmas themes and everybody participated. Each house on every street would be lit in some way - whether it was one spotlight shining on an elegant front-door wreath or multicolor strands of lights outlining windows, eaves, doors and roofs.

It's getting harder to find homes that still light up in a big way, but they aren't all gone. Following is a list of houses decked out for the holidays. Just plug the addresses in your GPS and give them a look.

Santa's workshop at top of hill on loop around driveway. Owners ask visitors for canned goods for donation to Chattanooga Community Kitchen and Forgotten Child fund. Turn off Belvoir Avenue onto Fountain Avenue across from school and look for the "green trees."
