Symposium examines Electoral College history, controversies

Dr. John Fowler, executive director of the Bandy Heritage Center for Northwest Georgia, will be among three scholars presenting talks at a symposium on "The Electoral College and Its Challenges" from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Dalton State College, 650 College Drive in Dalton, Ga.

Fowler will speak on "The Union Dissolves: The Election Crisis of 1860."

He will be joined by two associate professors of history at Dalton State: Dr. Tammy Byron, whose topic is "If Not Perfect, At Least Excellent: The Origins of the Electoral College," and Dr. Sarah Mergel, who will discuss "The Deadlock Scenario and Electoral College Reform."

The symposium will take place in Room 205 of the James E. Brown Center.
