What's cuter than little children in their Halloween costumes? Dogs dressed up.

Canine costumes are the order of the day when McKamey Animal Center hosts its third Barktoberfest and Meowlloween party on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the animal shelter, 4500 N. Access Road.

Adoption specials will be offered from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday before the Halloween party gets underway at 5 p.m. Between 5 and 9 o'clock, there will be a beer garden for ages 21 and older, German food, a dog costume contest at 5:30 p.m. and trick-or-treating for children and dogs from 6-9 p.m. Kids' trick-or-treating is open to any child who makes a donation of cat or dog food or a toy to McKamey.

Cats aren't left out of the fun. A cat costume contest is online; email a photo of your costumed cat to mckameymarketing@gmail.com.

First- and second-place prizes will be awarded in nearly 20 categories for dog and humans' costume creativity.

Tickets for the adult Terminal Brewhouse Beer Garden with full German menu are $30 per person or $45 per couple. All proceeds benefit shelter animals housed at McKamey.
