New Year's Eve is traditionally associated with a countdown to midnight followed by the playing of "Auld Lang Syne" while confetti and balloons drop.

Dec. 31 is just as exciting to children as it is to their parents who are going out. However, little ones usually aren't awake at midnight to celebrate, so several events are happening earlier in the day for them to see the old year out and the new one in.

* When: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday

Father Time, Baby New Year, a countdown to noon and kazoo rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" are part of the fun at the Creative Discovery Museum's 19th annual New Year's at Noon.

The countdown to noon is followed with a confetti drop. At 1 p.m., Father Time will lead guests in a dance party that closes with bubble-wrap fireworks.

Museum doors will open at 10 a.m. with craft activities beginning at that time. Children will make hats, wands and shakers.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive no later than noon to attend this party. For the comfort and safety of guests, attendance will be limited to 1,000 people in the building.

A giant screen on the Westin Hotel's mirrored surface will play a Chattanooga-themed laser show at midnight.
