Buddy Jewell, The Georgia Satellites, Drew Sterchi and Blues Tribe and Dove Award-winning gospel singer Guy Penrod will perform this weekend in Dunlap, Tennessee, during Valley Fest.

This ninth annual festival in the small Sequatchie Valley town offers fun for the whole family with craft and food vendors, two days of country, rock and gospel music and a carnival (which requires ticket purchases in addition to the festival entrance fee).

Here are some highlights coming up at Valley Fest:

» Saturday's fun kicks off with the Valley Fest 5K/10K at 7 a.m. CDT. Registration fees are $30 for the 5K, $35 for the 10K and $25 for a mile run.

» A car show is set for Saturday, May 4, at 15480 Rankin Ave. Registration begins at 9 a.m. CDT, with judging at 1 p.m. CDT. Awards will be given in the categories of Top 25, Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Engine, Best of Show and Valley Fest Choice.

» In conjunction with the town festival, an arts show is on view in Dunlap City Training Center, sponsored by Sequatchie County Friends of the Library. The free show features the work of 49 local artists. It will open with a reception Thursday at 6 p.m. Show hours the remainder of the week are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday (all times Central).

» Country singer-songwriter Buddy Jewell, winner of the first "Nashville Star" reality TV show, will open for The Georgia Satellites on Saturday night. The double-platinum rock band is known for hits such as "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" and "The Hippy-Hippy Shake."

» Saturday's activities at Valley Fest will close out with a fireworks show at 10 p.m. CDT.

» Former Confederate Railroad member Cody McCarver will open for Guy Penrod to wrap up the festival on Sunday afternoon. Penrod is best known for his 14 years spent as lead singer with the renowned Gaither Vocal Band. His 2017 album "Classics" features most-requested hits from that time, such as "The Old Rugged Cross Made the Difference," "Because He Lives" and "Then Came the Morning."
