The Silverdale Confederate Cemetery is where 155 unidentified soldiers from Gen. Braxton Bragg's army are buried.

* Borders/geographic area: Roughly between Shallowford Road and Bonny Oaks, and from Interstate 75 to Chickamauga Creek off Airport Road.

* Date founded/organized: Annexed into Chattanooga in 1972.

* Landmarks or geographic features: Confederate soldiers' cemetery at Silverdale near Lee Highway, where 155 unknown Confederate soldiers were buried from the nearby hospitals of Gen. Braxton Bragg's a8rmy in 1862. Argonne Memorial Square, a World War I memorial at the corner of Hickory Valley Road and Tyner Road, owned by Hamilton County since 1920.

* Unique characteristics: The subdivision of Midfield Acres, where building started in 1965, was a cultivated farm that belonged to the Sterchi Dairy.

* Famous residents: Capt. J.S. Tyner, chief construction engineer on the East Tennessee & Georgia railroad from Cleveland to Chattanooga, lived in Tyner while the work was being done.

* Historic information: Founded by Capt. J.S. Tyner and first called Tynerville, the current name dates from 1858. The first store, established by Lafayette Varnell, was continued until the Civil War. Later, N.L. Rawlings started a store and H.J. Springfield & Bro. ran a grocery and saloon. Troops and cargo of both the North and South moved through the Tyner Station, somewhere off present-day Hickory Valley Road. The remains of "Tyner Station" have disappeared, but it was a major railhead during the Civil War. Consequently, troops were camped all over this area.

* Odd/unique traditions: The Midfield Acres subdivision holds communitywide yard sales in the spring and fall.

* Schools: Bess T. Shepherd Elementary, Tyner Middle Academy and Tyner Academy.

* Best-kept secret: It was one of the most enterprising and up-to-date farming communities in the state.

* Fun fact: The area was originally called "Hawkinsville" after a local farm family.
