"Where else do runners race with bagpipes playing?" was one of the quotes from satisfied runners of the coinciding Signal Mountain "Firecracker" Mile.

This year's Signal Mountain 4th of July Parade through Old Town welcomed the addition of the inaugural Signal Mountain "Firecracker" Mile, a timed race over the mountain's rolling streets.

"Uphill, shmuphill. If you want a flat race, move to Kansas," said participant Stacey Malecky. The runners were joined by dozens of community floats and decked-out citizens.
