Silverdale Baptist Academy recently held a "Pink Out" volleyball match to promote breast cancer awareness and raise funds for scholarships awarded by the MaryEllen Locher Foundation.

Through gate admission and concession stand fees, the event raised $1,180 for the foundation, which provides scholarships to the children of mothers or fathers affected by breast cancer. Parents of scholarship recipients are either breast cancer survivors, currently undergoing treatment, or have passed away from breast cancer.

Haley Shields, Silverdale alum and second-grade teacher as well as a foundation board member and four-year recipient of the scholarship, helped organize the event.
