Lakesite has a new source for home furnishings in The Moody Rooster, offering refinished furniture, custom handmade furniture, custom drapery and a variety of home decor. The store is holding a grand opening Saturday, Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Owner Sean Braxton also owns custom furniture company Braxton Mill next door, and when the other side of the building opened up he decided to collaborate with five others to open The Moody Rooster.

Rather than open an artisan market with separate vendor spaces, they decided to mix all their items together in attractive vignettes. Those vignettes are constantly changing as new pieces come in every day, said Braxton, a resident of Soddy-Daisy.

The store is the exclusive dealer for the Chattanooga area of Frenchic paint, the same paint used to refinish many of the pieces in the store. They plan to host classes in the future to teach people how to use it, he said.

The Moody Rooster is also the only place to find Braxton Mills furniture, which Braxton handcrafts to customer specifications. Examples of his craftsmanship can be found in the store's showroom.

"We have fantastic furniture, and between the six of us, I think we're up on what people are into - farmhouse, French country," said Braxton. "If you want something special we can make that as well."

As the only man among the six business partners, Braxton said people often ask if he's the "Moody Rooster," but it's just a quirky name.

"We didn't want something easy to forget," he said.

The store's big, red barn roof also makes it stand out, Braxton added.

The Moody Rooster is at 8717 Hixson Pike. For more information visit tinyurl.com/MoodyRooster.
