Summer tomatoes are out. Autumn greens are in. And Acropolis’ lamb shanks? Well, that dish is a big-seller year-round, though owner Nick Kyriakidis said he starts to sell more once the fall cool-down begins.

“The richness of the meat, along with the risotto it’s served on — that means more comfort,” Nick said.

Yes, the season of comfort foods is nigh, meaning Acropolis will soon shift its preferred proteins to feature less fish and more braised meats, such as short ribs and, of course, the lamb shanks. Summer, after all, is often too busy a time to accommodate such slow cooking.

“We rush to and fro on vacation, and now we’re finally moving back into the rhythm, and around the dinner table,” said Nick.

Another comforting dish to look forward to is Acropolis’ slow-roasted sirloin pot roast, served with braised carrots, onions, celery and mashed potatoes. Like the lamb shanks, Acropolis’ pot roast sells well year-round, but becomes even more popular as the weather cools down.

Those first autumn winds inspire more than just a change in our appetites; they also bring back patio weather. For the days between that last garden tomato and that first piping-hot platter of pot roast, Acropolis now features a number of special appetizers to complement your end-of-summer outdoor dining. For a recipe that boasts both summer and fall flavors, try an order of Acropolis’ lamb lollipops — a classic appetizer that never goes out of season.
