This year, Dayton’s annual Tennessee Strawberry Festival is scheduled for May 12. But locals don’t have to wait until then to try a slice of fresh strawberry cake. There are a number of restaurants in the region already serving spring’s favorite sweet, sourced from fresh Florida berries. Here are a few favorites:
- Acropolis’ triple-layer “strawberry patch” cake, featuring chopped berries and thick white icing, is made from a family recipe more than 30 years old.
- Track’s End’s strawberry cake is a light, spongy and decadently fruity option, baked fresh daily. It’s a customer favorite and goes quickly, so be sure to call the restaurant first to check availability.
- Countryside Cafe’s strawberry shortcake is made with scratch-made, biscuit-like shortcake, whipped cream and a heap of juicy halved strawberries.
- The Chef and his Wife’s double-layer strawberry cake is baked with chunks of fresh fruit and smeared with creamy white frosting. Best of all, it can be included in your at-home delivery order.
