Picnic Perfect

Why is spring considered the picnic season? Why not fall, I wonder? After all, there are fewer bugs - and when it comes to color, unlike flowers in bloom, autumn leaves do not attract honey bees. And (bonus!) my favorite picnic spot in the city, Sunset Rock on Lookout Mountain, tends to be less crowded. Here, I've compiled a few tips to help you host the perfect picnic this season.

  • To help keep your cooler cool, freeze water bottles rather than dealing with ice.
  • Get creative with shish kebabs. You can skewer anything from sliced fruit to charcuterie for a no-fuss, easy-to-pack snack.
  • Pack foods - anything from a salads to bean dips to parfaits - in mason jars.
  • Make tiny pies in muffin trays.
  • Use muffin trays as drink or condiment holders.
  • Bring an extra drinking glass, which can be used as an speaker. Put on your playlist and put your phone in the empty cup, which will help amplify your music with its concave shape.
