Kids These Days

While I was celebrating the internet's decision to invent the "xennial" micro-generation, thus de-labeling me as a millennial - millennials were up to their usual ways: spawning bizzare trends to which I cannot relate.

Here are three examples of weird food trends in 2018. Kids these days.

  • Avocado proposals. That's right. Remove the pit and use the fruit as a ring box because, avocado everything?
  • The Unicorn Frappuccino at Starbucks. Chock-full of sugar and artificial dyes - much like the gas station Slurpees of my childhood, only quadruple the price.
  • Insects as protein. OK, fine. Maybe I have cricket flour in my kitchen cabinet. But, come on. Avocado proposals. Really?!

What's an 'xennial?'

According to an article in Business Insider, millennials were born between 1981 and 1996. "Xennials" are a micro-generation born between 1977 and 1985 - a group that doesn't identify with millennials or Gen Xers born between 1965 and 1980. (The writer of this column was born in 1983.)
