Mike and Taylor Monen recently launched their latest creation - Market South, a full-service food hall on the Southside at 1501 Long St., in the former home of Enzo's Market and the Grocery Bar.

The 14,500-square-foot venue features a variety of concepts: Slowrise Pizza offers pizza by the cut on a light and crispy crust. Grand Trunk Railroad highlights a variety of Indian street foods. Chow Main features Asian foods from wontons to curry, while Five Wits Brewing Company offers craft beers brewed on site. The Green Room provides coffee, tea, wines and cocktails. And R&D Test Kitchen is an incubator where a rotating cast of chefs cooks up new dishes for diners.

Seating options include dining tables grouped in an airy central space, bar seating along the windows and at several of the eateries, lounge areas featuring couches and easy chairs, and outdoor spaces.

The venture is the latest for the Monens, who launched their first restaurant in North Chattanooga in 2008 when they opened Taco Mamacita, and have opened other restaurants since in Chattanooga and Nashville.

Other Monen eateries include Chattanooga restaurants Urban Stack, Community Pie, Milk & Honey, and HiFi Clyde's, as well as the Nashville locations of Taco Mamacita, Milk & Honey and HiFi's Clyde's.

The Monens are on the front lines of every launch, and they are on hand - and hands-on - at Market South, said Tenley Mayfield Brown, director of business operations for Monen Family Restaurant Group.

"We grew up in entrepreneurial families," says Brown, who is Taylor Monen's sister. "We all watched our parents work hard, and we are all here working hard together."
