A building sitting amid the busiest retail and commercial center in Chattanooga is on the market.

Part of the 8,900-square-foot structure at 7316 Shallowford Road has been used for office space, but it could also serve as a restaurant or retail pad, according to Jon B. Hughes of Tower Property Group LLC.

The building sits between Gunbarrel Road and Hamilton Place Boulevard on a 1.14-acre tract. The site is positioned to experience traffic coming to or heading from Gunbarrel Road, the Waterside development, Interstate 75 and Hamilton Place Boulevard, according to Hughes.

A traffic light in front of the property provides easy access to the property that's valued at $2.3 million.

The Waterside development holds such retailers as REI, Burlington and Publix. An Embassy Suites hotel and Mellow Mushroom restaurant are located at the Shallowford Road entrance to Waterside. Developers have talked about putting up to 300 new apartment units at Waterside.

The Shallowford Road building was raised in 1989 and renovated in 2013, according to Hughes.
