New Image Laser Skin Center Offers Effective Tattoo Removal

For those looking to erase a part of their past, New Image Laser Skin Center provides laser tattoo removal.

Owner of New Image Jerry Manning said that while tattoos are still a growing trend in America, he hears more and more of people that are looking to remove them.

"Perhaps the most common reason I hear from my clients is 'it was stupid,'" he said. "Also I find a lot of my clients saying they don't like the example it sets for their children."

According to Manning, in recent surveys, it was determined that 17 percent of people with tattoos want at least one removed with more than 50 percent saying they have some regret.

Some of the reasons listed were they were young and naïve; the tattoo didn't turn out the way they imagined; or they ended a relationship and it no longer had significance. Some also admitted that it was just part of a fleeting moment they regret.

Whatever the reason may be, for those who choose to move forward with the tattoo removal, the process starts with a free consultation at New Image to evaluate the size and color of the tattoo and determine the number of sessions the client will need to remove it.

The actual procedure for laser tattoo removal works by a heat laser targeting the tattooed area with pulses of laser energy at a particular wavelength, said Manning.

The ink within the skin absorbs that energy causing it to break up, enabling the body to absorb it naturally or push it out like a splinter over a five to six week period.

After this first period, the next session will be performed and so on until the tattoo is removed completely.

"It usually takes eight to 10 sessions for the tattoo to fade enough so it cannot be seen," Manning said. "Each session usually just takes a few minutes, and the discomfort is much like that of a rubber band snapping on the skin."

He added that the pain will go away almost immediately after the procedure. An antibiotic ointment is then applied to the treated area, and the tattoo is covered by a dressing. The patient may have some blistering and itching for a few days after the session, but Manning assured that discomfort is minimal, and clients do see positive results.

The size of the tattoo determines the cost of each session. Some may be as little as $75, but others can cost $200 or more. Manning said that most tattoos he sees fall in the $100-$150 price range.

Color of the tattoo is also a determining factor. Dark colors are easiest to remove, and different colors of ink require varying wavelengths from the laser.

New Image Laser Skin Center is located at 6250 Ringgold Road, Chattanooga, Tenn. 37412. It offers laser tattoo removal as well as skin rejuvenation services.
