Get off the couch: Football, princesses on agenda

BARRY COURTER: Lisa, once again there is plenty to do around town, but the thing I'm excited about is that the Mocs are back in town. We went to the Georgia Southern game, and it was just about perfect. The weather, the venue, the win, everything. I whined a little about having to park near Hiroshi's on Main Street, but it was only a three-block walk. And since it meant the stadium was nearly full, it was a good thing. Being a part of the second-largest Mocs crowd (more than 17,000) made it even better.

LISA DENTON: I'm inclined to go across town to McKenzie Arena for the Disney on Ice production that starts Wednesday. This show is "Princess Classics," and I'm a sucker for those "happily ever after" stories, as far-fetched as I know they are. Plus, the action centers on Cinderella and her Prince Charming, so a fabulous pair of shoes is central to the plot. That's a story I can relate to.

BARRY: What do you mean far-fetched? It's like they read my diary. If I had a young princess to chaperone, that wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

But back to football. Finley Stadium, for those who haven't seen a game there, is among the very best in the country. Every seat is great, and now we have a team to go with it.

They will play Elon, a very good team, on Saturday, and the Mocs are in the hunt to possibly make the playoffs.

LISA: It is nice to have the city showing some love for the home team. And goodness knows blue and gold are easier colors to wear than orange and white. Boy, I really do sound like a girly girl today - Princess Frou-Frou talks shoes and fashionable colors. And yet, I'm not the one keeping a diary.

BARRY: You know I was kidding about that, right?

LISA: I don't have a young princess to chaperone either, except my inner princess. But $12 tickets on opening night make it a great deal. It's here for five days, and it's hard to beat Disney-level entertainment. I want to see how they make the magic carpet float in the "Aladdin" segment. Hey, maybe you can rent one to get from your car to Finley Stadium.
