Lake Winnie talent search continues

Five finalists will be chosen from a field of 20 young talents Sunday in the second of two preliminary contests in the Lake Winnepesaukah talent search. On Aug. 28, they'll join the first group of five finalists, determined in an Aug. 7 preliminary round, in the quest to be crowned this year's WinniStar.

Sunday's round will start at 5 p.m. on the Jukebox Junction Stage. All of the contestants are under age 18, and all performing arts are welcome.

In the finals, the runner-up receives $250. The grand-prize winner earns $500 and the chance to take the stage before a major act on Sept. 4.

"The winners of each round will be judged by audience response," said park spokeswoman Talley Green. "Win over the crowd, and you could find yourself performing for the Confederate Railroad audience."

Sunday's concert is free with gate admission of $5. Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and purchase an all-day ride pass ($21) or value strip of tickets ($13). The park is at 1730 Lakeview Drive in Rossville.
