Call for Kongs answered

When Jill Morgan read that the Humane Educational Society was seeking donations to provide Kong chew toys to more than 300 dogs housed at its facilities, she did something about it.

A self-proclaimed animal lover, Morgan assembled about 215 toys to deliver to the Humane Educational Society. The collection included 25 Kong toys suitable for 10- to 35- pound dogs and a variety of rope toys designed for heavy chewers.

Morgan is owner of Candy Scoop Store, a Web-based seller of candy buffet utensils. She acquired the toys through Dollar Days, one of her company's connections that distributes overstock goods with slight manufacturing defects.

When she discovered Dollar Days had a stockpile of dog toys on site, Morgan approached company officials and was encouraged by their enthusiastic response.

"There was not an iota of hesitation on their part, which was very nice and saved about $50 in shipping and handling," she said. "I thought that was very gracious of their company to do that."

Morgan said she regularly donates to animal charities, including to the Animal Planet rescue show "Last Chance Highway" and various shelters and humane societies. She moved to Chattanooga from Cocoa Beach, Fla., two years ago with two cats and a Chihuahua to be closer to mountains and farther from hurricanes.

The Humane Educational Society is still seeking donations to its Enrichment Fund to provide a Kong chew toy for each of its dogs. Online donations can be made at http://heschatt.com/help-donate.php.
