Two communities have scheduled tractor shows this weekend. The Gordon County Antique Engine and Tractor Club will present its sixth annual show in Calhoun, Ga., today and Saturday. The Sequatchie Valley Historical Ag Association will host the seventh annual Days of Yesteryear Antique Tractor and Engine Show on Saturday and Sunday in Dunlap, Tenn.
-- Calhoun, Ga.: The show will feature a daily power parade, exhibits, demonstrations of wheat threshing and baling, games for kids and a children's tractor train. A pinto bean and cornbread dinner will be served Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Proceeds from the dinner go to the club's scholarship fund.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday at the Cherokee Capital Fairgrounds on Highway 53 Spur West. Admission is free. For more information, call 706-629-7227 or 770-773-0855.
-- Dunlap, Tenn.: Spokesman Bill Gray says visitors can expect to see "lots and lots of tractors, all makes and models" at the Days of Yesteryear show.
The club started in 2005 with "a few of us old farming guys" and about 20 tractors, he said. Last year's show drew more than 100 models. Because the club is hosting the International Harvester state club this year, more than 200 tractors are expected.
Events include hayrides, hammer mill and cutoff saw demonstrations, woodworking, blacksmithing, tractor driving and a lawn-and-garden tractor pull. A Tractor Olympics will include men's and women's slow races, tractor pushes, barrel rolls and wagon backing.
Children will be able to take part in potato sack races, pedal tractor pulls and a kiddie barrel train.
The barrel train "runs solid during the show," Gray said. "The kids never get tired of riding it."
The show is will be in a new location at 97 Resource Road at Highway 127 just north of Highway 111.
