Three honored as Bessie Smith Center marks 30 years

What: Ruth Holmberg, Rayburn Traughber and Edna Varner were honored during a luncheon at the DoubleTree Hotel on Feb. 4 celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. The three were selected for their contributions to "enrich the black culture in Chattanooga, their pivotal roles in building relationships, and significant contributions in education," according to a news release. Judy Smith, co-executive producer of ABC's hit series, "Scandal," and president of crisis communications firm, Smith & Co., was the keynote speaker.

Wag and Wine benefits shelter animals

What: As part of its grand opening, Kitchen at Union Square hosted more than 100 guests for food and wine tastings.
