Chris Lee, a 2013 graduate of McCallie School, has been cast in the double role of Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson in the Chicago production of "Hamilton."

Performances begin Sept. 27 at the PrivateBank Theater in Chicago, 18 W. Monroe St., according to broadwayworld.com.

"Hamilton" is the wildly popular musical about America's founding father Alexander Hamilton, with lyrics and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The musical, which blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap and R&B, won 11 Tony Awards last month.

Lee was a boarding student from Woodstock, Ga., while attending McCallie, according to the school's public relations office. He attended Belmont University after graduation. He has performed in regional theater productions of "Tarzan," "The Wiz" and "In the Heights."

Miguel Cervantes will play the title role in the Chicago cast. Karen Olivo, who won a 2009 Tony for her portrayal of Anita in "West Side Story," is cast as Angelica Schuyler and Alexander Gemignani is King George.

Miranda, who has played Alexander Hamilton since 2015, left the cast of the Broadway production on July 9. He has said in media releases he plans to pop in on the Chicago cast to occasionally step back into the role. A national touring production is scheduled to begin in San Francisco in 2017.
