It's National Fruitcake Day, according to the calendar keepers at NationalToday.com, a site devoted to commemorating quirky and fun holidays.

Researchers at the site say results of a survey prove Americans are determined to dislike fruitcake, even if they've never tried it. Their research shows that 1 in 10 Americans have made fun of fruitcake, even while admitting they've never had it in their life.

To prep for National Fruitcake Day, Dec. 27, researchers asked 1,000 Americans their opinions around the dessert.

» Only 11 percent of Americans like fruitcake. A full 89 percent of Americans don't care for it — and among women, fruitcake tolerance is even lower. Only 8 percent like it, compared to 14 percent of men.

» 1 in 5 Americans haven't sample it at all. Close to 20 percent of Americans have never eaten the fruity loaf, but that doesn't stop the 7 percent that say they still make fun of it.

» 95 percent of Americans have never made their own fruitcake. Only 5 percent have shown the classic Christmas dessert any love, even though 42 percent of Americans say they bake every Christmas. However, 1 in 10 say they would eat fruitcake if it's homemade.
