BARRY COURTER: Lisa, I know it's a little early, but Happy Mother's Day to you, your mom and your daughter. I heard somebody say once that you can't really judge a person's parenting skills until you meet their grandchild(ren). I reckon you and your mother did all right then.

LISA DENTON: Wow, if you think my mother did an OK job, then she won't have to fan herself over some of the things I say and write. It's all in good fun, of course, but she worries about me sometimes. And also my brother, but that's for a whole 'nother reason.

She does like it when I tell that Freudian slip joke, when you say one thing and mean your mother.

And best wishes to all the mothers and mothers-to-be in your family. It's nice that you're being so pleasant today.

BARRY: Yeah, well, don't get used to it. Anyway, there are lots of events tied to Mother's Day. Several restaurants are offering special meals and both the Chattanooga Market at First Tennessee and the Collegedale Market at the Commons there are having special celebrations.

Getting mom a Bloody Mary while she shops is a pretty good way to start the afternoon.

LISA: I would recommend two, but she needs one hand free to shop.

BARRY: Don't ask how I know, but the key is to time your circuits around the pavilion so you end up in front of an adult beverage vendor just as you finish your drink.

And I don't know if you saw the announcement over the weekend regarding the 2019-20 Broadway Series at the Tivoli Theatre. Tickets go on sale at 10 this morning. It's another good lineup with "Les Miserables," "Beautiful - The Carole King Musical," "Cats," "The Color Purple," "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Waitress."

In most cases, the "classics" are newly reimagined versions of the stories we know and love. I got to see "Spamalot" from last year's series, and it is always very cool to see a show in that venue.

LISA: It is indeed. And don't forget that Lake Winnepesaukah is now open. Sometimes you need a Broadway musical. Sometimes you need a boat chute.

And sometimes you need baseball. The Lookouts are back tonight for a 10-game home stand, starting with the Tennessee Smokies and ending with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. That's a great name. Almost in a league with the soccer club that was here over the weekend to play the Chattanooga Football Club. They were called the Nebraska Bugeaters. That one's hard to beat, as names go.

BARRY: That's a good one. The Savannah Bananas and New Orleans Baby Cakes are pretty good too, but my all-time favorite is the Macon Whoopees minor-league hockey team of old.
