* St. Elmo Presbyterian Church will mark the retirement of its pastor, the Rev. Cal Boroughs, in services Sunday, Aug. 30. Congregants may worship in the sanctuary, taking coronavirus precautions, or via a livestream at 10:30 a.m.
Boroughs accepted the call to the church in 1990 at a time when it was struggling. In his tenure, membership increased dramatically and the church added a large education wing and fellowship hall. New ministries that served the congregation and the larger community also were started under his leadership.
An active member of the Presbyterian Church in America, he has served on many committees for the Tennessee Valley Presbytery over the years, as well as several study commissions for the PCA General Assembly that helped establish policies for the denomination on important issues.
He is active in nonprofit work with Cornerstones, Rebuild Together and the Community Association of Historic St. Elmo. He and his wife, Susan, will continue as members of St. Elmo Presbyterian.
