MainX24, the annual block party held during a 24-hour period in early December up and down Main Street and in the adjoining neighborhoods, has canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The event typically features a pancake breakfast, open houses in the shops along the street and several parades including one for pets and and others for decorated bicycles and cars, as well as live music, and street performers.
This would have been the 14th Mainx24.
According a statement on social media, orgaizers wrote, "We have been waiting with hopeful hearts and fingers crossed that we could still host Mainx24. Unfortunately, Mainx24 is not safe to happen this year. Due to the current guidelines, city permitting, and insurance hurdles, Mainx24 will postpone the celebration until 2021.
"We will continue to urge the public to safely support the numerous businesses and nonprofits along Main Street and throughout the Southside. We hope we can all celebrate Main Street and the Southside together again soon. If you own a Southside business, we encourage you to promote a sale, any specials, or updates that your business may have, and we will share via the Mainx24 pages. Examples like online shopping opportunities, food-to-go, lunch or dinner specials, and more. If you create an event for your specials via Facebook, make Mainx24 a co-host to reflect on the calendar, we will happily share it to the Mainx24 website and social media accounts.
"We share this news with much disappointment as we always look forward to celebrating the BEST day of the year, showcasing all that the Southside has to offer. Still, the safety of our attendees, residents, and businesses are the top priority. If there are any changes or updates between now and December, we will let everyone know."
