Joe Bagdonas Jr.

Joe Bagdonas Jr., 67, of Signal Mountain, passed away Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at Memorial Hospital.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Pearl Porter Bagdonas. Joe was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Joe graduated from Notre Dame High School, attended the University of Chattanooga and served his country in the Army National Guard. Joe loved fishing, hunting, going out to eat, the UTC Mocs, the Crimson Tide and a good argument at any time.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Groves Bagdonas; son, Jody Bagdonas; daughter, Elizabeth Bagdonas; mother-in-law, Betty Groves; sister-in-law, Gwen (Jimmy) Amberson; brother-in-law, Greg (Audrey) Groves; several nephews; one niece; and his beloved dogs.

Joe's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Coronary Care Unit nursing staff for their compassion, patience and prayer-filled hearts through this difficult time.

Louise Burke

Louise H. Burke departed this life on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at a local health care facility.

She was a member of Bethlehem-Wiley United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities for many years until her health failed. She was a retired Teacher Assistant from the Chattanooga Public School System after serving 26 years.

She preceded in death by her husband, Bernard E. Burke Sr.; and her devoted friend, Theodore R. Bryant.

She leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Bernard E. Burke Jr., of Atlanta, Harold G. Burke Sr., of Chattanooga, Katie Bernadette Wrighten of Charleston, S.C., Avis A. Gary of Knoxville; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Eddie B. Dabney, of Gainesville, Ga.; brother, Willie B. Huitt, of Rochester, N.Y; a host of other relatives and friends; including special friends, Ruth Williams, Dan (Amanda) Sandoval and family; Kendall (Shelia) Ray and family; Harvey (Rosa) Wakefield and family; Hurdie (Annie) Moore and family; The Widow's Harvest Ministry (Andy Mendosia and Beverly Jackson) Jim Hayes; Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Johnson and Diane Meadows.

Michael Dammann

Michael Timothy Dammann, 44, of Chattanooga, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009.

He was born in Paducah, Ky., on Nov. 21, 1964. Michael graduated from Hixson High School, class of 1983 and from Chattanooga State. He was a technical Consultant and employed by Synterprise Global Consulting Co.

He was member of Hixson United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harry and Joyce Funk and Tom and Marjorie Dammann of Illinois.

Survivors include his parents, Charles and Marilyn Dammann; one brother, Christopher and sister-in-law, Ruth Dammann; nephews, Luke and Benjamin Dammann; nieces, Hannah and Rebekah Dammann, all of Hixson.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Aug. 29, at the North Chapel with the Rev. Randy Martin officiating.

Aliese Hutsell

Aliese G. Hutsell, 74, of Ooltewah, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at a local hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Janaro and Clara Griffin and was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kenneth Hutsell Sr., and several brothers and sisters.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her three children, Desiree Hutsell, of Warwick, R.I., Joseph Kenneth Hutsell Jr., Frank Hutsell, both of Ooltewah; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three sisters, Mary Purdue, of Rossville, Foxy Hughes, of Fayetteville, Tenn., Margie Carpenter, of East Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.

Dan Jackson Sr.

Herbert Dan Jackson Sr., 90, of Ringgold, Ga., went home to be with His Lord and Savior and to be reunited with the love of his life, Marion, on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009.

Born on Jan. 1, 1919 in Hamilton, Ohio, Mr. Jackson attended college at Eastern State, Kentucky State, UTC and was an engineer working with several engineering firms. He was a member of the Navy Seabees serving during WWII in the South Pacific as a navy diver First Class and also a veteran of the Korean War.

He was founder and owner of Welded Products Co. and also a metal sculpture business from 1970 until 2004. He was an avid sculptor having some of his work displayed in Atlanta, China and has pieces on display in the permanent collection at the River Gallery as well as some artwork in private collections throughout many states. He had a love for animals, especially horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Blanche Hensley Jackson; sister, Mary Jane Agee; and his loving wife, Marion Louise McCann Jackson.

Survivors are his children, Patrica Mirabella, Chattanooga, Danny (Joy) Jackson and Dian (Danny) Lusk, all of Ringgold; grandchildren, Mike (Carole) Mirabella, Tiffany (Jonathan) James, Heath Jackson, Mandy Lusk and Devin Jackson; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Gabi and Hope Mirabella; Kaley and Casey James; several nieces, nephews, many special friends and his beloved dog, Benji.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jeff McCann and Dr. Mark McCann officiating.

Burial will be at Chattanooga Memorial Park with Jonathan James, Devin Jackson, Nathan Hollingsworth, Derek Klein, David Klein and Jeff Walters serving as pallbearers.

Virginia Marie Martin, 81, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009.

She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga and was an actress on Broadway during the 1950s and 1960s.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy T. and Harville Martin; and a brother, Donald B. Martin.

Survivors include her brother, Jere E. and wife, Rosellen Martin of Harrison; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Martin, of Nashville; nieces and nephews.

Diane Bowman Nason, 64, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, in Lawrence, Kan.

She was an exceptional wife and mother who was deeply loved. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Alan Nichols, 57, lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, in a local hospital.

He was a graduate of Red Bank High School, the University of the South and University of Tennessee Law School. Mr. Nichols was a partner at Miller & Martin law firm for 32 years and former president of the Tennessee River Gorge Trust.

Gary served in the U.S. Army and was Honorably Discharged in 1973.

He retired from South Central Bell Telephone Co. after 32 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Young Jr. and Edna Bridges Young.

JASPER - Harry "Joe" Hogan, 86, died at a local nursing home on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rayma Colleen Condra Hogan; son, Joe Frank (P.J.) Hogan, of Jasper; sister, Geraldine Pepper, of Harrison, Ohio; granddaughter, Amanda Nicole Hogan, of Bryant, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

The son of the late Charles Vines and Pearl Simmons Hogan, he was raised and educated in South Pittsburg and served as an Electrician's Mate, 3rd Class in the Navy during WII. He was a retired union carpenter having worked for TVA and the state of Tennessee, 50+ year member of the Carpenters Union Local 1608 and attended Jasper Cumberland Presbyterian church.

Mr. Hogan was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Robert Hogan.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Jasper chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 2 p.m. CDT today, Aug. 29, with the Rev. James H. Patterson officiating.

ROSSVILLE - Raymond A. Kerley Sr., 74, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, after a 22 year battle with Parkinson's/Alzheimer Disease.

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga/North Georgia area, and was retired as the owner of Kerley Roofing Co.

Mr. Kerley was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. William Major and Pearl Kerley; and brother, Rev. E.C. Kerley.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lula Kerley, she was his loving and devoted caregiver for 22 years during his lengthy illness; son, Raymond Jr. (Cathy) Kerley; daughter, Robin Kerley; granddaughter, Caitlin; brother, Bill (Shirley) Kerley; several nieces and nephews.

He was of Baptist faith and had lived in North Georgia since moving from Arkansas in 1973. He was an Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Pat Maxwell; and brother-in-law, Frank Wyre.

Melva York

IDER - Melva Jean Fuller York, 82, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at her residence.

Mrs. York was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church and was retired from Publix Supermarkets.

Survivors include, daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene and Larry Thomas, Northport, Fla.., Myra Lynn and Kenneth Kilgore, Ider, Rhonda and Bob Correll, Bryant; son, Jerry Lee York, Ider; son and daughter-in-law, Gary Hugh and Betty Jo York, Lakeland, Fla.; sisters, Myra Jo Bailey, Ider, Linda Beville, Fort Payne; grandchildren, Larry Thomas Jr., Mary Ann Thomas, Jerry York Jr., Amy Robinson, Erica York, Spencer Kilgore, Jennifer Hubbard, Robert Correll Jr., Michael Correll, Jacob Correll; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. CDT at Corner Stone Funeral Chapel with Brother Raymond Blevins officiating.

Burial in Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. CDT Sunday and 11 a.m. CDT until service time on Monday.
