Members of Soddy-Daisy High School's band and their entourage of chaperones and family members were up at 6 a.m. preparing to rehearse and see the sights in Hollywood today.

The band is in California to march in the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day.

"Breakfast is in just a few minutes. Then we are off to bus tour of Hollywood, band practice, Universal Studios and then Hard Rock Cafe. It will be a long, long day," said Mitzi Freeman, SDHS band webmaster who is blogging for the Times Free Press from Pasadena, Calif.

Freeman reports the group is having trouble uploading photos due to lack of good Wifi.

"The Internet connections are terrible out here. I hope they improve today."

Band members departed Chattanooga for Atlanta's airport on three buses Monday morning. The first group arrived at LA International about 1:45 p.m. and the last about 5:15. The three groups met up at the Santa Monica pier before a pizza dinner then settling into their hotels about 8 last night.

Freeman reports they did not experience any delays at the airports due to new security policies. Covenant Transport drove the band's uniforms, instruments and luggage to California last week to ensure no one lost luggage or instruments during a flight.
