Helen E. Clarke Crawford, of Hixson, peacefully passed away at her home on Friday, June 12, 2009,
She was 91 years "young" and lived a life full of love and family. Mrs. Crawford was a lifelong member of Falling Water Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. S. Fred Clarke and Mrs. Anna Pitts Clarke; her husband, Lt. Col. Luther S. Crawford; her daughter, Mrs. Linda Melvin; and her brother, Samuel Fred Clarke Jr.
She is survived by her son, Robert L. Crawford, of Hixson; daughters, Betty Crawford, of Hixson, and Ann Edmonds, of Atlanta; son-in-law, Ron Melvin, and his wife, Pat, of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and grandchildren, Ben Edmonds, of Chicago, Annah Edmonds, of Seattle, Kalia Edmonds, of Atlanta, and James Melvin, of Washington D.C.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jim Barry and the Rev. Everett Gossett officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of our mother, Elaine B. Graves, on Saturday, June 13, 2009,
Elaine and her husband, Ivan were longtime residents of Apison. Elaine was preceded in death by Ivan on March 1, 2008. Elaine was a nurse at the Collegedale Medical Center and a member of Collegedale SDA Church.
She is survived by her five children, Carmen C. Graves, of Brunswick, Maine, Karl I. Graves, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Rodney A. Graves, of McDonald, and fiancée, Irma Zapata, Rachel L. Hyatt, of Indianapolis, and fiancé, Scott Nemeth, Indiana, and Rhonda Lee Graves, of Apison; seven grandchildren, Cristopher and Richard Hyatt, Andrew, Nolan and Clinton Graves, Justin Moore and Crystal Graves; 10 nieces and nephews; brother, Robert F. Record Jr., of Limerick, Maine; and sister, Charlotte Mayberry, of Berwick, Maine.
A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Mike Pettingill in Collegedale Community SDA Church Wednesday, June 17, at 2 p.m.

Harold North Sr.
Harold L. North Sr., 82, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, at his residence.
He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia area. Mr. North retired as vice president of Card-Monroe Corp. He had been involved in the international sales of textile machinery since 1957. Mr. North attended the University of Tennessee, University of Chattanooga and the Advanced Management Program of Harvard University. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Scott; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. North Sr.; and two brothers, John H. North Jr. and William L. "Bill" North.
He is survived b his wife of 56 years, Frances Starr North; children, Harold L. "Hal" (Teresa) North Jr. and Amy Starr North; and grandchildren, Ensign Harold L. "Tripp" North III, La Jolla, Calif., and Grant Gibson "Gib" North. He also is survived by his brothers, Fredrick L. North, M. Lamar (Judy) North, Richard B. (Ann) North, and Ben L. (Mildred) North; and sisters-in-law, Maxine North and Mary North, all of Rossville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home chapel with Ben Haden officiating.
Interment will follow in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

DUNLAP - Pearl "Geneva" Hickey Custer, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Erlanger hospital.
She was born on May 6, 1926, and was a lifelong resident of Dunlap. She was a member of Ewtonville Baptist Church, a graduate of Sequatchie County High School, and retired as dental assistant for the late Dr. Marvin Woodard of Signal Mountain.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James R. and Pearl Hickey; brothers, Charles Hickey and James Edgar Hickey; and sister, Susella Seals.
Survivors include her only son, Donald R. (Pat) Custer; brother, Avery (Gwen) Hickey; sister, Cecile Goolsby; and several nieces and nephews.

She was born in Jackson, Tenn., but has lived in the North Georgia area for the last 50 years. She was the oldest member of First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe and was previously employed with Hutcheson Medical Center as a Phone Operator.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melville B. Caradine Sr., and her son, Melville B. Caradine Jr.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Betty Caradine, of Millington, Tenn., and Mickey and Rena Caradine, of Rossville; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and extended family, Lebron and Karen Little, of Rossville.

RINGGOLD - Agustin R. Jarata, 77, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at a local hospital.
He was born in Agoo La Union, Philippines on July 14, 1931, to his parents the late Vicente and Leona Rivera Jarata. Mr. Jarata attended International Community Baptist Church in Ringgold. He was a sales associate with Wal Mart for almost 10 years.

Jarata, of Ringgold; sons, Augustin (Celerina) Jarata Jr., Mario Theodore (Josie) Jarata and Maximo (Imelda) Jarata, all of Agoo La Union, Philippines; daughters, Evelyn J. (Lovell) Guir, of Sterling Heights, Mich., Susan (Martin) Boado, of Agoo La Union, Philippines, Alice (Elmer) Balitustos, of Batangas, Philippines, Esmeralda Jarata, of Saudi Arabia, and Olivia (Peter) Pascual, of Ringgold, Ga.; brothers, Francisco Jarata, of Manila, Philippines, and Pablo Jarata, of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister, Luz Pante, of Philippines; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - Jean Lindsey McNice, 69, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009, peacefully surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Langston W. McNice; her two daughters, Susan M. Kirby and Cathy J. McNice, of Midlothian; grandchildren, Michael, Nathan and Josh Kirby of Midlothian; a sister and brother, Gaynelle Kinser and Butch Lindsey, both of Chattanooga.
Jean was a former Miss Chattanooga, where she was also hostess on a midday television show for eight years. Since moving to Richmond, she had been involved in many civic associations, been a member of the Junior League and Stonehenge Golf and Country Club.
Her family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Salisbury Presbyterian Church, with interment service to follow at Westhampton Memorial Park.
