PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. - The Smoky Mountains resort town of Pigeon Forge is offering cash giveaways for gasoline, utilities, car notes and mortgage payments.
Through July, 36 families will receive $100 to $15,000 to provide them with extra money that could go toward family vacations.
Details are at Pigeon Forge's Web site, www.MyPigeonForge.com. A 100-word essay is required to enter, and self-nominations are banned. Visitors to the Web site will choose the winners from the posted essays.
The campaign is called "Taking Back Vacation."
In 2006, the town gave away a tanker truckload of gasoline in the aftermath of rising gas prices.
