Chattanooga: Doctor's employee charged with prescription fraud

A local doctor's office employee has been arrested on prescription fraud and Tenn-Care fraud charges, according to Chattanooga police.

Ellora Spears, 33, was under Chattanooga Police Narcotics Division investigation since January for the suspected stealing of a prescription pad from her employer, said Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Royval.

The prescription pad was used to obtain prescriptions of vicoprofen, a combination of hydrocodone and ibuprofen, at local Walmarts and Rite Aids, she said.

Ms. Spears was charged on April 14 with seven counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud, Officer Royval said, and is facing numerous other charges, including Tenn-Care fraud, fro the 12th Judicial Task Force and the Inspector General's Office.
