Everett Abercrombie

Everett Allen Abercrombie, 70, of Soddy-Daisy, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010.

Everett was born in Kansas City, Kan., and graduated from Bishop Ward High School there. He received his degree in Milling Engineering from the Kansas State University where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Everett retired from Horizon Milling Co. in 2006, where he was the Eastern Regional Manager. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus.

Everett was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Carol Abercrombie; a grandson, Christopher Abercrombie and his parents, Mildred and Wilbert Watson.

He is survived by his wife of 81/2 years, Patricia Ann Abercrombie; three sons, Allen Abercrombie and his wife, Jackie, of Knoxville, James Abercrombie, of Hixson and Dr. John Abercrombie, and his wife, Leah, of Knoxville; three stepdaughters, Rebecca Postic, Theresa Postic and DeAnna Onken, and her husband, Nathan, all of Minnesota; grandchildren, Jennifer, Amy, Frederick, Tyler and Ryan Abercrombie, April Olson, and her husband, Brandon and their daughter, Autumn; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Keith and Janet Abercrombie; several nieces and nephews.

A Rosary Service will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.

A Mass of Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 10768 Dayton Pike, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379 with Monsignor Al Humbrecht and Father Mike Creson officiating.

Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Everett's name to the building fund at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, P.O. Box 1015, Soddy-Daisy, TN 37384.

Naomi Brooks

Naomi Louise Brooks, 89, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at her residence.

Graveside services will be held today at 12:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Ronnie Powe officiating.

Family Visitation: today from 11 a.m.-noon at Taylor Funeral Home.

The body may be viewed after 9:30 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Rose Calhoun

Rose Marie Calhoun, 73, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, in a local health care facility.

Jackie Damon

Wilda "Jackie" Damon, 89, of Soddy Daisy, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2010.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Lillian and Benton Foreman. She grew up in Cleveland and upstate New York where she graduated from high school. She married Gregg Damon, and they traveled until Gregg went into the Navy. After his discharge, they settled in Chattanooga, where Gregg was a photographer with Olan Mills. She worked as Office Manger for Mutual Benefit Life Insurance of Newark, N.J., and later worked as an agent for Huffaker Realtors in Chattanooga.

She was a world traveler having been to Russia, China, Turkey and the Galapagos Islands. She also attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Her life was spent volunteering and writing. Among the organizations were: Chattanooga Literacy Movement (CALM), Graduate Assistant with Dale Carnegie Public Speaking, CONTACT, Tennessee Aquarium and Hunter Museum. She was also a Notary for 40 years - never charging for her services. Just "giving something back."

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gregg Damon; and only daughter, Donna Damon Dawn.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Craig and Rose Damon, retired military living in San Antonio; nephew, Richard Marsh, of Schertz, Texas; beloved daughter-in-law, Angie Clifton, of New Braunfels, Texas; three grandchildren, Gregg Damon, Donna Arce, Anna Kloesel; five great-grandchildren, and many loving, caring friends.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Judge Sam Payne officiating.

Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1:30-3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Noble Dance

Noble Sylvester Dance, Chattanooga, expired Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010.

He was born in Trenton, Tenn., Oct. 25, 1948, to Lucinda Cartwright Dance and James "Pete" Dance, who preceded him in death.

Noble was a graduate of Tennessee State University and was a retired teacher from HCDE at East Lake Elementary and Academy.

Noble leaves behind six children, daughters, Shay Johnson, Teffany Williams, Azusa Dance, Akilah Dance Jackson (William Jackson Sr.), Larissa Collier; and son, James Collier; seven grandchildren, granddaughters, Marie Dance, Takira Williams, Jasmine Jackson, Bre'Tasi Collier; and grandsons, Michael Dance, William D. Jackson Jr. and Kevin Jackson; two sisters, Marion Dance Erby (Willie Erby) and Frieda Dance Turner; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Dance's life will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Trammell's Chapel with the Rev. David Strong officiating.

His body will lay in state at the chapel today, Feb. 4, from 1-7 p.m.

Callie Davenport

Callie Sue Davenport, 81, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010.

Callie Sue Davenport was born on May 26, 1928 in Athens, Ga. She was an active member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. She belonged to the Whiteside Residence Association and the MLK Neighborhood Association. She was a graduate of Howard High School class of 1947.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Green and Hilda Howard; sister, Dorothy Howard; son, Calvin Lebron Davenport; granddaughter, Queena Davenport; grandson, Dale Antonio "Tony" Anderson.

She leaves to cherish her husband. Clarence Calvin Davenport; and four children, Phyllis Diane (David) McKnight, Wayman "Butterball" Davenport, Gregory Rene Davenport, Michael Dewayne Davenport; 11 grandchildren, Clarence, Sue, Larry (Nika) Anderson; LaRhonda (Jerome) Wyatt; Kenric, Calvin (Angie), Domonique, Michaela, Daniel, Callie Davenport, Valencia Blanks; 18 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren, all of Chattanooga; nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Idella Bell Davis, of Chattanooga, died Wednesday Feb. 3, 2010, at a local hospital.

Carrey Garrett Jr.

Carrey Leon 'Simon' Garrett Jr., 37, of Dayton, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 from his earthly home.

He was a member of Gamble Road Baptist Church.

He preceded in death by his father, Carrey L. Garrett Sr. known as "Turtle".

He is survived by his wife of almost 19 years, Debra "Bear" Garrett; one son, Carrey L. "Peanut" Garrett III; mother, Judy Garrett; grandparents, Bud and Jessie Ann Harden; sister, Tammy Ives; three nieces and five nephews.

The funeral service will be held today, Feb. 4, 2010, at 1 p.m. in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Gurney Beard officiating.

Interment will follow in Holder Memorial Garden on Gamble Road.

The family will receive friends today up to the hour of service at the funeral home.

Deborah Haney

Deborah Ann Haney, 60, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010.

She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and attended First Bible Methodist Church in Chattanooga.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior C. Haney; parents, Willie and Nelma Lawson; and sister, Carolyn Cobb.

She is survived by her daughters, Twyla Shelton, of Chattanooga, Gracie Troutwine, of Chattanooga, and Roxanna Shelton, of Fort Oglethorpe; sister, Robin Dailey, of Fort Myers, Fla.; brother, Bill Lawson, of Chickamauga; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and lifelong family friend, Barbara Smith.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Harold Watson officiating.

Interment to follow at Crestlawn Cemetery, LaFayette.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Feb. 4, 2010, all day Friday, and Saturday prior to the service.

Emmett Hart

L. Emmett Hart, 90, of East Ridge, passed away on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010.

Mr. Hart was born in St. Louis, Mo. to Arthur and Mary Jane Hart. He was a member of East Ridge United Methodist Church where he belonged to the Joy Sunday School Class, a graduate of Chattanooga City High School, and a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII. Mr. Hart retired as a Mechanic's Manager for Lockheed Martin, and a member of Hill City Lodge F&AM 603, Scottish Rite, Alhambra Temple and Tin Lizzie.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Carrie Marie Hart.

Survivors include his sisters-in-law, Agnes Hart and Hilda Eidson; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Graveside services will be at noon today, Feb. 4, at the Chapel of Devotion in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson, with the Rev. J.N. Howard officiating.

Charles Holcombe

Charles Robert Holcombe, 65, of Tiftonia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010.

A longtime resident of Chattanooga, Mr. Holcombe was retired from BASF after 30 years of service. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the Believers Sunday school class.

He was the son of the late Oscar Holcombe and Dorothy Johnson.

He will be remembered as the most loving and generous father a family could have.

Survivors are his loving wife of 46 years, Frances Holcombe; daughter, Kelly (James) Canning, Hixson; two sons, Chuck (Mary) Holcombe, Houston, Texas, and Wade (Jennifer) Holcombe, Hixson; special cousin, Janet Marks, Flintstone, Ga.; grandchildren, Mandi and Cody Pell, Cassie (Ed) Eldridge, Brittney Holcombe, Jaden and Amber Holcombe; step-grandchildren, Matt and Brianna Canning; great-grandson, Claude Edward "Little Eddy" Eldridge V; stepgreat-granddaughter, Camri Eldridge.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Rev. Shad Smith officiating.

Louise Holder

M. Louise Holder, 92, of Ooltewah, went to be with the angels Monday, Feb. 1, 2010.

A lifelong resident of Ooltewah, she was a member of Ooltewah Baptist Church and the Maggie Watts Sunday School Class and was a retired sales lady from retail sales after many years. She was the daughter of the late, Jewell and Mary Cannon Carson and the wife of the late William E. Holder.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Hughes and her brother, Frank Carson.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Ned and Betty Holder, Georgetown Tenn.; two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Raymond Baker, Ooltewah and Rosemary and Mickey Arp, Georgetown, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Michael (Tiffany) Arp and Michelle Arp; three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bill Mason officiating.

Interment will be in Old McDonald Cemetery.

Susie H. Lewis, 84, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at her residence.

She was one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Lookout Congregation.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Lewis; daughter, Mary Ann Lewis; six sisters; one brother.

Survivors: daughter, Emily J. Lewis; son, Edward (Felicia) Lewis; daughter, Wanda A. Dilliard, all of Chattanooga; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Dorothy Long

Dorothy Reynolds Long, 87, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Long was retired from 3M Co. and GE Co. in 1987. She was a member of Tiftonia Church of Christ and she was the second oldest living member. She was a loving wife, mother and devoted sister.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Alice Reynolds; sisters, Rebecca Bledsoe, Sallie Loveday, May Clark, Lula Beene, Corrine Housley, Margaret Huckabee, Virginia Ruth Reynolds; brothers, James Reynolds, Claude Reynolds Jr.; and husband of 51 years, James D. Long.

She is survived by her daughter, Alice Dianne Long, Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Louise Hulvey; several nieces and nephews; and devoted neighbors, the Delaney family and the Tippett family.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Tiftonia Church of Christ with Minister Edgar C. Beard, Minister Jeff Brown, and Minister Jack James officiating.

Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, West, with Mark Schock, Johnny Huckabee, Lamar Hulvey, Mark Delaney, Ron Delaney and Atlee Beene serving as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank caregivers, Sandra Goines, Scharlon Walden and Gaylynn Walden for their care and compassion during Mrs. Long's illness and special thanks to Dr. Gandhi, his staff and Parkridge Medical Center staff on 4 West.

Ray McCabe

Raymond "Ray" Earl McCabe, 57, peacefully went home to be with the Lord and join his parents on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at his home in Red Bank after battling a long term illness.

Ray's nickname on his job was "Mighty Mouse" where he was employed and worked many long hard hours to support his family thru the ironworkers Local 704 followed with 10 years employment at U.S. Pipe until his illness.

He was raised in the Baptist faith at Ridgecrest Baptist Church where he was later Baptized after rededicating his life to the Lord.

He was preceded in his homecoming by his parents Earl and Lottie McCabe.

Surviving are his loving wife and caretaker of 34 years, Jacqueline "Jackie" Graham McCabe, who's life will be forever changed; his four boys, Daniel Spike, Rocky Shane, Zachary Bronson and Clinton Blake, all of Red Bank will sadly miss their father and cherish many loving memories; he was very happy to be blessed with four beautiful grandchildren that admired their Pawpaw, Celton Stone McCabe, Kaylee Rae McCabe, Sierra Malynn McCabe and Rocksy Lynn McCabe and expecting number five that will learn from the others the admirable Pawpaw that went to be with Jesus; also his companion, bed buddy and lap dog "Oscar". He is also survived by his brother, Clifford McCabe; sisters, Freda Roberts and Annette Cooper; several nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.

A special thanks to Dr. Virani and his nurse Kelly for their kindness and patience in caring for Ray.

James William Miller, 78, of Ooltewah, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010.

George Payne

George Donald Payne, 68, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010.

Mr. Payne was a native of North Carolina but had lived most of his adult life in Tennessee.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Payne; children, Arville, Debra and Ronald Payne, and Rachel Slatton; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; siblings, Helen Hindman and James Herbert Payne, all of Tennessee.

Ronnie Shumate Jr.

Ronald "Ronnie" Earl Shumate Jr., 48, of Hixson, passed away suddenly on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010.

Ronnie was born in Rockwood, Tenn., and attended schools in Hixson and Red Bank. He was a 1980 graduate of Red Bank High School. Ronnie was a talented athlete in basketball and football from YMCA all thru his high school years where he was named Honorable Mention All State in Football his Senior Year. He continued his football in college at Marion Military Institute, and Southeast Missouri State University. Ronnie was an outstanding Quarterback on the SEMO team, holding the distinction of being 12th in the Nation in Offensive Performances for Division II Schools. Ronnie was a Truck Driver by profession and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Frances Hickey, of Rockwood and Earl and Thelma Shumate, of Portsmouth, Ohio.

Ronnie is survived by his daughter, Kaitlin Shumate; and his ex-wife, Cynthia Luttrell, both of Jackson, Mo.; mother, Margaret "Micki" Hickey Shumate, of Hixson; father and stepmother, Ron and Peggy Shumate, of Soddy-Daisy; sisters, Laura Coulston and husband, Jeff, of Scottsboro, Ala. and Lisa Christopher, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; uncle, Paul Hickey of North Hollywood, Calif. and an aunt, Suzanne Williams and husband, Mike, of Portsmouth, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today at the North Chapel.

Services for Ronnie will follow at 7:30 p.m. today at the North Chapel with Father Nathan Brooks of Missionary Order of St. Thomas More officiating.

Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, Tenn.

Dorris Tongate

Dorris "D.C." Tongate, 62, of Soddy-Daisy passed gently into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at his home.

He was a native of Hopkinsville, Ky., where he was a graduate of Hopkinsville High School, Class of 1965. Mr. Tongate received his BS and Master degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Tech University and an EdS degree from University of Georgia. He was employed as a Power Utilization Engineer by TVA's Customer Service department and retired in 2001. Mr. Tongate was of the Church of Christ faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Christine Martin and Paul Goodwin.

He is survived by his wife, Carlene; children, Ashlea (fiancé Justin Rumer) of Soddy-Daisy and David (Bethany) of Hoover, Ala.; brother, Darrel (Judy) Tongate, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; maternal aunt, Lillian Speer of Clarksville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, in the Legacy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Lasley officiating.

Joe Turner Jr.

Joe C. Turner Jr., 84, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, in a local healthcare facility.

He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class and was also a former member of the Brainerd Optimist Club.

He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II and was retired from Standard Iron and Wire Works after 23 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn C. Turner; and two brothers, Cecil and Charles Turner.

Survivors include his wife Virginia A. Turner; daughter, Beverly T. (Joe A.) Lawhorn, of Chattanooga; son, James "Doug" (Sharon C.) Turner, of Trenton, Ga.; stepdaughter, Mandi (Al) Cantrell, of Sylacauga, Ala.; sister, Mrs. W. W. "Bonnie" Williams of Chattanooga; grandchildren, James Shaye Turner of Nashville; Nicholas Joseph Turner and James Sean Turner, both of Chattanooga, Tonya C. Henley, of Trenton, Mary Kelly Cantrell and Allison Cantrell, both of Sylacauga; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Paul Terry Waller, 63, of Harrison passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, in a local healthcare center.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul and Pauline Payne; one brother, Allan Waller.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Morrow Waller; son, Jeffery David Waller, both of Harrison; three daughters, Connie (Gene) Marshall, of Birchwood, Rachel Wolfe, and Rebecca (Chris) Kelley, of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Michale, Katie, Halee, Brooke and Brett; one great-grandson, Dustin; aunts and uncle, Mary Alice Ervin, Peggy Boggs, Jackie Simmons and Paul D. Payne; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at graveside on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 in Grasshopper Road Church of God Cemetery at 2 p.m. with Pastor Fred Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home today from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

James Weller

James F. 'Jim' Weller, 67, of Harrison, passed away as the result of complications following surgery on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010.

The funeral service will be held today, Feb. 4, 2010, at 3 p.m. in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Morty Lloyd officiating.

Interment will follow in New McDonald Cemetery on Snow Hill Road.

Edwin Baxter

RINGGOLD -- Edwin Lamar "Bud" Baxter formerly of Ringgold, passed away in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010.

He was the sixth of ten children born to Luke and Molly Baxter on March 8, 1923 in Murray County, Ga. He moved to Catoosa County when he was young. After finishing Ringgold High, Bud joined the Navy, serving for seven years before, during and after WWII. Bud saw action in the Atlantic and Pacific Arenas and served on several ships including the USS Cincinnati. After the war he was stationed in China.

After being honorably discharged, Bud returned to Ringgold working as a mail carrier for 40 years until his retirement. He also owned and operated several small businesses of which his favorite was a small cattle farm. Bud was active in the community and Ringgold United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Joann, moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C. in 2005 to be closer to their grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents, Luke and Molly Baxter; brothers, Hugh Don, Lawrence, Lewis and Nesbitt; and sisters, Grace, Louise and Jeanie.

Bud is survived by his wife, Joann Erwin Baxter; daughter, Sue Alese Mason (Dennis); son, Douglas Charles Baxter (Susan); grandchildren, Greer and Blair Baxter; a brother, John Baxter (Jane); a sister, Doris Harris (John); a brother-in-law, Roy Hawes and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 1-3 p.m. at Ringgold United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

There will be a private graveside service officiated by the Rev. John Purrington to be held at a later time.

Jewel Campbell

LaFAYETTE -- Jewel Liner Campbell, 85, died on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, after a brief illness. At her death she was surrounded by her family and the incredible caring staff of the Erlanger Regional Stroke Center.

Her family is blessed by her life, her wisdom, her love and her devotion to God.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elbert E. Campbell, of LaFayette; sisters, Hazel Corfitzson, Mary Stansell; and her beloved sister-in-law, Louise Campbell.

Born in Rossville, Mrs. Campbell was a graduate of Tyner High School, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and the University of Georgia where she received graduate degrees in education. She was a renowned teacher and educator for more than 50 years influencing the lives of her students in LaFayette and Chattanooga.

Mrs. Campbell served the Walker County school system for over 30 years including two terms as a member of the Walker County Board of Education. Throughout her career, she was recognized for her innovative leadership in curriculum by the Walker County Educators Association, Georgia Education Association, and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She also received the LaFayette Rotary Club's Outstanding Vocational Service Award and was a founding board member of The Women's Crisis Center for Walker, Dade, and Catoosa Counties. As a member of the First Baptist Church of LaFayette for more than 50 years, Mrs. Campbell served as director of the Youth Department for over 25 years, Sunday school teacher and on several administrative committees.

She is survived by her children, Maridel Campbell McQueen (Alan Johnson), of Williamsburg, Va., and Elisa Elizabeth Poe (Brian), of Overland Park, Kan. Also surviving is her sister, Lucille Liner (Doss) Sanders, of Chattanooga; and sister-in-law, Anne Campbell, of LaFayette. She has three grandchildren, Kelly Campbell Steele (Randy), of Mableton, Ga., Kimberly Campbell Black (Josh), of Wheaton, Ill., and Samuel Brian Poe, of Overland Park, Kan. She has one great-grandchild, Miles Everett Black.

Her family will receive friends at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home today, Feb. 4, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. and celebrate her life at First Baptist Church of LaFayette, Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at 3 p.m.

RINGGOLD -- Tommie Mae "Bot" Finney, 67, to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, in a local hospital.

She was employed by Collins & Aikman of Dalton for 40 plus years and was a faithful and active member of Mt. Peria Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by husband, Leroy Finney Sr.; father, Tommy Jackson; mother, Hennie Mae Wright; grandparents; three sisters, Sarah Mae Dupree, Annie Jackson and Ruth Jackson; brother, Willie B. Jackson.

Left to cherish her memories is daughter, Ethel M. Finney; two sons, Robert (Yolanda) Finney, both of Chattanooga; Leroy Finney, of Ringgold; grandchildren, Charles Finney, Maurice Finney, Brutus Finney, Courtney Underwood, Erica Ricks and Renyata Finney; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Cal and Ace Finney; several nieces and nephews and a host of devoted family and friends.

Luther Jones

FORT OGLETHORPE -- Luther "Luke" Sturkie Jones Jr., 68, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2010.

He resided in the Rossville and the Fort Oglethorpe, area for most of his life. He was of the Lutheran Faith. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves for over 18 years and retired from Central Soya in 2000 with 34 years of employment. He spent his retirement days watching Alabama Football, surfing the web on his computer, and working at the Fort Oglethorpe Wal-mart.

Luke was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Hazel Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Jones; sons, Luther "Luke" Jones, of Fort Oglethorpe and Paul Jones, of Chickamauga; sister, Tanna Curtis, of Chickamauga; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Brother James Turnipseed.

Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Chattanooga.

Rudolph Mullins

DALTON -- Rudolph Mullins, 77, went to live with his heavenly father Tuesday morning, Feb. 2, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Rudolph was born Feb. 14, 1932 in Whitfield County, Ga., a son of the late Henry and Estelle Morgan Mullins. He was also preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lisa Mullins.

WILDWOOD -- William Clyde "Bud" Shourd Jr., 74, departed this life Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010.

He drove a truck for 27 years before he opened Midway Lumber Co. in Valley Head and Powell, Ala., and Midway Sales and Midway Services in Wildwood, Ga., and was a member of We Rock Off Road Club and Scenic City 4 Wheel Drive Club.

He was born in Chattanooga to the late William and Clella Shourd.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Clara Shourd, of Wildwood; sons, Richard (Sandra) Shourd, of Cleveland, Tenn., Michael (Jerri) Shourd, of Wildwood; brother, John (Lei Lani) Shourd, of Pinson, Ala.; grandchildren, Matt Shourd, Brandon (Miranda) Shourd, both of Cleveland, Tenn., Lauren and Sara Shourd, both of Wildwood; mother-in-law, Beulah Townson, of Tiftonia, several nieces and nephews; and best friend for 47 years, Neal Evans, of Crossville, Tenn.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, in the chapel with Pastor Grady Davidson officiating.

Robert Tipton

Robert D. Tipton, 81, of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Tipton was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church and it's Agape Sunday School class. He retired from U.S. Steel with 39 years of service. Mr. Tipton was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Tipton; and a sister, Mary Helen Burke.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Patsy Tipton, four sons, Michael Tipton, Valapraiso, Ind., Rev. Allan Wooten

RINGGOLD -- Allan Eugene Wooten, 87, of Ringgold and Scottsboro, Ala., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at his residence.

Allan was a gentleman who has traveled the world over, serving his country during WWII in both the European and Pacific theatres of battle and retired from military service having been honorably discharged as an officer. Upon returning to military service later in life, he was appointed State Aviation Officer of Tennessee Defense Force, from which he retired as Colonel Allan Wooten.

As a politician, Allan has served as Tax Assessor in Catoosa County, Ga., and remains a licensed assessor today. He was past president of the Rotary Club in Catoosa County, past Commander of the Catoosa County VFW, and a lifetime member of the American Legion, Catoosa County post. In addition, he has been a Mason for 60 years, and is a member of the Alhambra Shrine Temple in Chattanooga. As a Shriner and a pilot he was a member of the Flying Fezz Unit and flew many burned and crippled children to the Shrine hospitals in Kentucky and Ohio.

Allan's hobbies included piloting airplanes, trout fishing, and playing with his great-granddaughter, Marissa. He is past president of the Trout Club at Tellico Plains, Tenn.. Allan joined the Fraternal Order of Eagles #945 in Chattanooga in 1981, serving in many capacities including President during 1984-85. He also served as Seven State Conference Trustee for seven years. His favorite charity was the H. Clay Evan Johnson Cancer Center at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael David Wooten; parents, Arthur and Nora Wooten; two brothers, Mitchell and Arthur Wooten; great-granddaughter, Eris J. Curtis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Julia M. Wooten; daughter, Frances E. Wooten Long; his grandson, Allan David (Marisol) Curtis; granddaughter, Robin Patricia (Scott) Finnell; and great-granddaughter, Marissa E. Curtis.

Graveside services were held with military honors at Anderson Memorial Cemetery.
