Catamounts beat Lady Mocs in OT

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina edged the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team 51-49 in overtime Monday night at the Ramsey Center.

The Catamounts outscored the Lady Mocs 9-7 in the extra period, denying UTC's quest to win the Southern Conference title outright. Jenaya Wade-Fray had a shot to tie the game at the buzzer but couldn't hit it.

The Lady Mocs can still clinch the title outright and lock up the top seed in the SoCon tournament with a win Saturday against Samford at McKenzie Arena.

Kayla Christopher hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give UTC a 19-18 at the half. Western Carolina led by as many as eight in the second half before UTC rallied to tie the game at 42.

The Lady Mocs had the ball with 17.9 seconds left with a chance to win in regulation but couldn't convert, sending the game to overtime.

Wade-Fray led UTC with 14 points and Shanara Hollinquest added 10 and 11 rebounds.
