It was this compassion for others that led her to become a teacher. And her love for children kept her in that profession for over 40 years as she taught in schools in Tennessee, France and finally Tacoma where she retired in 1992.

In 1959, she married John N. Miller, a military man. They remained bonded until his passing in 2002. John's career in the Army would take Minnie to Europe where she celebrated the start of her family with the birth of her only child, John N. Miller Jr. In 1964 the Army life brought Minnie to Tacoma. She was extremely active in her church, Allen A.M.E, and numerous clubs and organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Tacoma Chapter of Links, Incorporated. Minnie's pride and joy are her two grandchildren, John III and Elizabeth, who affectionately called her "Mama Mimi" and whom she showered with attention and love.

Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, John N. Miller.

She is survived by her son, John N. Miller Jr.; daughter-in-law, Carol Miller; and her grandchildren, John N. Miller III and Elizabeth N. Miller.

The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of The Weatherly Inn and Franciscan Hospice whose compassion and care for "Miss Minnie" was overwhelming.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 29, 11 a.m. at Allen A.M.E. Church, 1223 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Tacoma WA 98405.

Interment to follow at New Tacoma Cemetery.
