A group of prominent Howard alumni gathered at the school today in support of the administration, faculty and students.

Howard School of Academics and Technology has been targeted by the state for inclusion in a state-run "Achievement School District" and is subject to extensive state involvement.

Those present said the news came at a time when students are preparing to take state standardized tests, and that they now are "demoralized."

"Now is not the time to pull the rug out from under them," said Walter Williams, a member of the group. "The state should be supporting us."

The group of about 20 Howard alumni said they will hold an assembly on Monday to encourage the students.
