Bald eagle wounded in Reelfoot Lake area

TIPTONVILLE, Tenn. - A reward of up to $3,300 has been offered for information leading to conviction of anyone responsible for the wounding of a bald eagle in the Reelfoot Lake area.

The eagle was discovered about five miles north of Tiptonville, close to the Mississippi River. An examination showed the eagle was shot with a rifle in late March. Due to the injuries, it would not have been able to fly very far from where it had been shot.

The eagle had part of its right wing amputated. According to the Union City Daily Messenger, it will be unable to fly again.

The reward is provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the Mid-South Raptor Center.

Bald eagles are protected under federal law.
