HOUSTON - A teacher caught on a cell phone recording beating a 13-year-old student is apologizing.
Sheri Lynn Davis says she's "without excuse" for her attack on Isaiah Reagins at Jamie's House Charter School, a Houston-area alternative school. She says she's "very regretful."
Davis was fired Monday after the recording of the April 29 beating became public. The boy's family says he suffered a black eye and other bruises, and has been taken out of the school. His mother has also filed a lawsuit against Davis and the school.
Davis' attorney Chip Lewis said Friday he thinks the lawsuit will bring to light problems at the school. He said Davis had to be a bouncer and an enforcement officer in addition to teaching.
The school says it handled the situation appropriately after learning of it.
