City Attorney Mike McMahan will not face any criminal investigation for billing secretarial services at his private law firm and being involved in a longtime arrangement in which the city attorney's office acted as a private entity.
District Attorney General Russell Johnson, of Kingston, Tenn., investigated the matter over the last two months. He said in a news release that state Comptroller Justin Wilson agreed there had been technical violations of state statutes, but there was no intent to defraud and the practices had been in the public eye since 1962.
"General Johnson concurs with Comptroller Wilson's analysis of the situation," the news release from Johnson's office states. "As a result, this investigation is now concluded and there will be no further action taken."
