Volkswagen officials today marked the first customer car to roll off the line at its Chattanooga factory.
The first car was a night-blue metallic Passat SEL equipped with a 2.5-liter engine, automatic transmission, leather interior and 18-inch wheels.
The Passat was driven by Joey Gilliland, who works in quality assurance for Volkswagen.
Frank Fischer, chief executive of the Chattanooga VW plant, told more than 1,600 employees of the factory that, "I'm very proud of what we've accomplished here in Chattanooga.
"I'm proud of this car and I'm proud of you," he said.
