A Hamilton County principal is among nine nominees for the state's 2012 Principal of the Year award, while a Meigs County administrator was nominated for another statewide honor.

Karen Hollis, principal of Hixson's Ganns Middle Valley Elementary School, is among the nominees for the Tennessee 2012 Principal of the Year award, the Tennessee Department of Education announced today. The award highlights school leaders who have implemented outstanding programming and advocated for the improvement of public education.

Christine Ziegler, assistant superintendent for Meigs County Schools, was nominated for the year's Supervisor of the Year award, which honors district-wide administrators who guide student improvement.

"There is no way we could push forward with crucial education reform in this state without the tireless effort of our leaders," Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman said in a news release. "The principals and supervisors we recognize today have all helped make Tennessee a better place for kids to learn."
