Whitwell High School launches 'Tiger Time'

WHITWELL, Tenn. - Whitwell High School this week kicked off a new daily schedule that fits a half-hour period into the middle of the day for students to catch up on schoolwork, get tutoring or even shoot baskets and socialize.

It's called "Tiger Time," officials said.

The activity each day depends on how well students are doing in school, officials say. If a student is making good grades and keeping up, they can listen to their iPod, use a computer or break out an instrument and play music in free time with other students.

But for students who need help, school officials say the daily schedule now includes time for remedial work in core classes, counseling for students with problems at home or school and to make resources available during the school day making the most of students' and teachers' time.

Students say they think it'll help those who are struggling and will be fun for those who are not.
