59-year-old Gregory Brown has been arrested for the brutal beating of his girlfriend, 54-year-old Laverne Brundidge at 1100-A Sheridan Avenue. Brundidge is still hospitalized with severe facial abrasions and contusions. According to witnesses and Brown's own account, Brown repeatedly beat Brundidge by punching her in the face and ramming her head into the concrete floor of Brundidge's apartment. Brundidge said the beat went on for nearly an hour until Brown got tired and went outside where neighbors saw him covered in blood. Brown then drug his pit bull outside and proceeded to punch the dog in the face repeatedly.
It's not known what prompted the assault against Brundidge but because of the severity and duration of the beating, Brown has been charged with aggravated domestic assault and cruelty to animals.
