Redskins ship Haynesworth to Patriots

ASHBURN, Va. - The Albert Haynesworth saga is finally over in Washington.

A person familiar with the deal says the disgruntled defensive tackle was shipped to the New England Patriots early Thursday, ridding themselves of a two-time All-Pro with one of the most lucrative contracts in NFL history.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither team had formally announced the trade.

Haynesworth has been a constant headache for the Redskins since signing a seven-year, $100 million contract as a free agent in 2009. The deal included a then-record $41 million in guaranteed money.

Last year, Haynesworth constantly feuded with coach Mike Shanahan and was suspended for the final four games of the season. Off the field, he has dealt with numerous legal issues.
