Authorities from three counties are searching for a man who disappeared while boating on Sale Creek.
About 2 p.m. today, two men were in the boat when one of them went over the side, either falling or going in to cool himself off, officials said. He tried but couldn't get back in the boat.
The other man went in the water, too, perhaps to try to help the first man, authorities said, but the boat drifted away and both men had to swim for shore.
The second man made it but the first man hasn't been seen since, officials said.
Their names have not been released.
The boat was in about 40 feet of water when the men went over the side, officials said.
Authorities from Hamilton, Meigs and Rhea counties are involved in the search, which is taking place on Sale Creek near Burton Road.
