Former Chattanooga Mayor Ron LittlefieldMayor Ron Littlefield told the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Health Council today that any talks about funding the health department and the sales-tax agreement would go away if the county would pursue its own charter.
"There's a little bit of frustration here, quite frankly," Littlefield said.
He told the council he has been trying to talk to the county for two years about consolidation of services and the sales-tax agreement, but he has "gotten nowhere."
He also told the council he does not think the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department should lose any funding as the sales-tax agreement expires on May 23. The city is set to let the contract expire and receive an additional $10.5 million in sales tax revenue.
The city has said it would fully fund public libraries within the city and the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency. Littlefield has said he expects the county to fund the health department.
