Dalton police are searching for a man who was caught on camera stealing a .50-caliber muzzle-loader rifle from the Walmart on Shugart Road.

On Nov. 17 about 7 p.m., police believe a man pried one of the rifles out of the display case and left without being noticed, said police spokesman Bruce Frazier.

It wasn't clear how the suspect got the rifle out of the case, Frazier said, but employees noticed the gun was missing a few hours later. After reviewing the surveillance footage, they spotted a man leaving with a gun.

The stolen rifle is a manufactured by Connecticut Valley Arms.

The man is described as a white male wearing a dark-colored sweater and lighter-colored pants with dark shoes, Frazier said. The suspect had dark hair with a short pony tail.

Anyone with information or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Officer Patrick Lee with the Dalton Police Department at 706-278-9085, ext. 194.
