Rep. Eric Watson said in a written statement today that he isn't resigning from his legislative position.

Watson, R-Cleveland, resigned as captain from the Bradley County Sheriff's office on Monday and the sheriff's office gave no explanation.

But Watson said he resigned to help operate his father's business while he recovers from a near fatal accident.

"Law enforcement is not only my career, it is also my passion," Watson said in his written statement. "My immediate plans are to answer the unexpected needs of my parents and our family business."

Watson said he's honored to have spent his entire professional career in law enforcement and plans to continue in his role as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.
