Three family members were arrested this week during a Bradley County sting investigation to crack down on scrap metal thefts.

Bradley County sheriff's detectives planted scrap metal and wire into a trailer and left it in grassy area at the intersection of Waterlevel Highway and Osment Road, said sheriff's spokesman Bob Gault.

Investigators positioned themselves near the trailer and waited, he said.

About 9 p.m., a pickup truck pulled up and three people got out and hooked the trailer to their truck and then drove off, Gault said.

Deputies followed the truck and arrested the family as they headed toward home on Silver Trail Circle, Gault said.

Thomas Kevin Boles, 46, 18-year-old Matthew David Boles, and Meghan Jane Boles, 31, were charged with theft over $1,000, Gault said.

The Boles have each posted $2,000 bonds and are due back in court on Oct. 20.
