A Tennessee high school student was arrested and suspended from school for allegedly bringing a paring knife on campus Monday.

The 17-year-old student told the assistant principal she was going to peel an apple for lunch, according to a Germantown police report. The report stated she had a "Pampered Chef" knife in her purse and an apple in her possession.

The student was issued a juvenile summons for carrying a weapon on school property and suspended for 180-days, a penalty automatically called for in the Shelby County Schools (SCS) Student-Parent handbook. However, if the student appeals, modification of the suspension can be made by the superintendent or from the SCS Disciplinary Hearing Authority.
